Getting Started with Looma

Download the app, create your account, choose your networks, and learn how Home, Create, and safety tiers work.

1. Download Looma

Looma is available on iPhone and Android:

You can also search for “Looma” in your store, or start from looma.social.

Is Looma free? Yes. Downloading and using Looma does not require a subscription. Ads help fund the platform and Looma Gives. Some features, such as earnings or marketplace activity, may involve payments later, but basic access is free.

2. Walk through onboarding

The first launch walks you through what Looma is about, then two important steps:

  1. Looma Safeguard confirms you are old enough to create a primary account. Primary accounts are for adults (18+). If the store age signal shows you are under 18, signup is blocked.
  2. Choose your networks by tapping at least one interest network. Networks help shape discovery and what you see later.

When you are ready, choose Signup or Signin.

3. Create your account

On Create Account, enter:

  • Username (checked for availability after a few characters)
  • Any name to help friends find you
  • Email
  • Password of at least 8 characters, including upper and lower case, a number, and a special character

Tap Create Account. You may be offered biometrics for faster sign-in on supported devices.

4. Verify your email

If your account needs verification, open Verification from sign-in, enter the code from your email, and tap Verify. Until an adult account is verified, many actions stay browse-only.

5. If you forget your password

  1. On sign-in, tap Forgot password?
  2. Enter the email on your account and tap Reset Password.
  3. Use the reset message you receive to open Reset Password, set a new password, and return to sign-in.

6. Find your way around

Bottom navigation

After you are signed in and verified, the bottom bar may include:

  • Home for your main feeds
  • Search when your safety tier allows it
  • Create (+) to start a Moment, Discussion, Listing, Community, Event, or Compilation
  • Council vote when voting is available to you
  • Glimpses for Glimpse viewing when your feed access allows it

If only Home is available, the bar may hide until more features unlock for your account.

Menu drawer

Open the side menu for Profile, Settings, Looma Gives, Explore, Spaces, Listings, Communities, Organizations, and Events. What you see depends on age tier and whether your account is verified.

7. Core content types

  • Networks are interest categories you pick during onboarding. They control what public posts, communities, and events you can see and interact with. Details: Communities & Networks.
  • Moments are the main posts you create with caption and media. Your following feed is Moments-based.
  • Glimpses are Moments you opt into Glimpse presentation, shown in the Glimpses viewer.
  • Discussions are titled conversation posts for questions and topic talk.
  • Communities are groups you can join or create for shared Moments, Discussions, and more.

Feeds are designed to stay chronological. Looma does not use engagement algorithms to pressure you into endless scrolling.

8. Age, profiles, and safety

Primary Looma accounts are for adults (18+). Parents or guardians can create supervised sub-profiles for younger users, with tighter limits by age band.

High-level tiers

  • Restricted (about 12–13): tightly limited experience
  • Supervised (about 14–15): friends-focused access
  • Independent minor (about 16–17): broader discovery with wellbeing tools
  • Adult (18+): full access after verification

Exact menus change by tier. For the full safety model, read How Looma Protects Kids and the Child Safety Standards.

9. Next steps

  • Complete verification so Create, Search, and social features unlock.
  • Join a Community from the drawer.
  • Open Settings from the drawer header gear icon for theme, language, and wellbeing tools.
  • Browse more help topics from the Help Home category index as guides are published.
